EM-i DRIVE MODES
One System, Three Ways to Drive
The Geely Starray EM-i Electric Hybrid represents a new era of intelligent hybrid vehicles, combining efficiency, performance and versatility in one package. At the heart of it is Geely's EM-i system. EM-i, or E-Motive intelligence, combines electric and petrol power for greater efficiency, performance and lower emissions. The EM-i system reads what the car is doing and switches between electric, hybrid and combined power for you.
Pure Mode
Get the pure EV experience with the electric motor powering the vehicle. The battery recharges via regenerative braking.
Hybrid Mode
The electric motor and petrol motor work in harmony. The battery charges either via regenerative braking or the petrol motor.
Power Mode
Delivers the combined power of both motors when performance matters most.

BUILT FOR NEW ZEALAND
Engineered for Real Life
Four ways the Electric Hybrid system fits how people actually drive.
Go Further, Worry Less
Impressive range in both Pure EV and Hybrid modes, so you can leave a long drive without wondering where the next charger is.
Built for Real-World Budgets
The system maximises the efficiency of both motors, getting more out of every tank of petrol and every charge.
Cool, Calm, Collected
The same seamless performance regardless of how much charge is in the battery. The car adapts, so you don't have to.
Best of Both Worlds
Daily commute or extended road trip — both motors are at your service, so you never have to plan the drive around the technology.
UNDER THE SKIN
The Technology Inside
Two components do most of the work: the electric drive, and the battery.

E-DHT Eleven-In-One Electric Drive
The Electric Dedicated Hybrid Transmission is the electric powerhouse of the EM-i system — a two-tier motor system always ready to deliver electric power when required.
Geely has achieved one of the highest thermal efficiencies in a petrol engine, designed to make the most of every drop of fuel.
Lithium-Iron Phosphate Battery
The 18.4 kWh battery is housed with technology that withstands extreme circumstances — including full submersion in seawater, immense pressure loading and direct contact with fire.

Electric Hybrid or Fully Electric?
An Electric Hybrid suits drivers who do occasional long trips and would rather not plan around public chargers. A fully electric car like the EX5 is usually cheapest per kilometre if you can charge overnight at home. Neither is universally "better" — it depends on your driving.
Electric Hybrid Questions Answered
An Electric Hybrid is Geely's EM-i plug-in hybrid system. It pairs an electric motor with a highly efficient petrol engine so the car runs on electricity for everyday driving and switches to hybrid power for longer trips, giving 943 km of combined WLTP range in the Starray EM-i.
You can plug it in to get the full 83 km of pure electric range, but you don't have to. The petrol engine and regenerative braking keep the battery charged, so the car never depends on a charger to work.
A conventional hybrid has a small battery it cannot charge from the wall. A Geely Electric Hybrid has a much larger 18.4 kWh battery you can charge at home, so most short trips run on electricity alone.
The Starray EM-i uses 2.4 L/100km on the combined WLTP cycle.
Pure runs on the electric motor alone. Hybrid blends the electric and petrol motors. Power combines both for maximum performance.
